Valerie Yaklin-Brown is a visual artist living on a foreclosed emu farm in Magnolia, Texas. She grew up in the small south Texas town of Riviera, received her graduate degree in photography at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas and currently teaches at Lone Star College-Montgomery.
At the core of Valerie's works is the compulsion to excavate meaning from large and small life events. Issues of identity, place, and political and societal concerns are explored using a variety of photo-based media.
